Former BP Plc head Tony Hayward is back in the oil business.
While BP Plc (NYSE: BP) continues to rack up billions of dollars in legal bills and now stands accused by federal authorities of having a ?culture of corporate recklessness,? the man who led that company during the Deepwater Horizon disaster ? Tony Hayward ? is getting his life back.
You may remember Hayward as The New York Times describes him ? pinched and sweaty ? during the height of the Deepwater spill, when oil plumes were viewed spewing into the Gulf in real time while Hayward complained, ?I?d like my life back.?
The New York Times reports in a profile on Hayward today that he?s back in the oil business ? but not in the Gulf of Mexico. Rather, Hayward is in northern Iraq hoping to strike gold with some deep-pocketed Turkish backers far from the U.S. and its testy American public.
Still, the infamous complaint is but one memorable Hayward moment that probably sent his public relations team into a frenzy. Earlier this year, we compiled a list of Hayward's and other C-level execs' gaffes.
In a federal court filing, the U.S. Department of Justice alleges London-based BP and Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG), which owned and operated the well, were grossly negligent in the Deepwater case.
