Earlier this year, Deutsche Telekom took a step into mobile gaming with a
?2 million investment in Flaregames. Today, it's expanding its in-house online gaming business. The carrier, which owns ?mobile operator T-Mobile, has
announced that a worldwide license to create a browser-based game based on the popular Asterix comic books, as part of a larger expansion of its gaming activities. The deal will see Deutsche Telekom work with
SEE Games?(a division of the licensing house SEE Global Entertainment); Asterix book publisher?Les ?ditions Albert Ren?; and the games developers
Sproing,?to create an Asterix game that will become the "flagship" brand for the carrier in its new push into?browser-based games. That push will also involve "significant" (but unspecified) investments into gaming software development and marketing, Deutsche Telekom says.
