Ever felt that, in a society that?s very vocal about gender equality, sometimes men?s rights are somewhat taken for granted? Ever felt that, while everyone is talking about domestic violence against women, few ever inquire into men?s psychological health? Want to learn more about sexual disorders men commonly suffer from but feel shy and afraid to discuss? This is why on the 23rd and 24th of November SCORP and SCORA, in association with St. James Hospital, are organising MMSA?s??International Men?s Day?, a worldwide campaign held to celebrate the male persona on a holistic level. Besides topics ranging from men?s sexual health to their psychological well-being, the campaign also addresses the issues of homophobia, social role of men and role models, fitness and gender equality.
Join us at our stand on Friday 23rd at 09.00 hrs. at the University Quadrangle, in front of the library, where an outreaching event will be taking place and leaflets will be distributed. A photo competition in support of the international ?I?m a Real Man? campaign (a campaign by Women?s Aid), which calls for men worldwide to make a difference in society today, will also be held. Sport your manliest poses and be in the chance of winning an exclusive ?I?m a Real Man? T-Shirt with MMSA?s logo printed on the back! Support the campaign also by signing the ?I?m a Real Man? pledge. Remember; a real man doesn?t hit, abuse or control and doesn?t hurt the ones he loves! Also, for those looking to breaking a sweat, a tug-of-war competition will be held at 10.30 hrs. next to our stand: a fun competition aimed towards bringing out one?s manlier side. (Ladies can, of course, join in the fun!). Participants who wish to apply as a team can do so by emailing us on imd@mmsa.org.mt. To help raise awareness and contribute towards curing prostate cancer, MMSA will be taking part in the Movember Campaign (check out: http://ex.movember.com/), an international month-long event which raises awareness on prostate cancer and other male cancer issues.Men ? feel free to grow your moustache in support of this noble campaign! Donations for the campaign will be collected by MMSA members throughout the month but you can also do your part by giving a small donation at our stand, where a cookie sale will also be held.
Events at the stand will be followed by talks that will be delivered at the new Anatomy Lecture Theatre (nALR) at the Biomedical Sciences Building, starting at 12.00 hrs. and pertaining to the topics of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, psychological abuse in men and gender equality. Refreshments will be provided throughout the talks, which will conclude at 14.00 hrs.
To promote the importance of men?s health and fitness, on the 24th of November, an event is also being organised in association with Gymnasia, during which participants will get the chance to enjoy free rock climbing sessions and a self-defence lesson, complimented by a talk on general fitness by Alan Micallef. This will be held at Gymnasia, Paola, from 10.00 till 12.30 hrs. Places are limited, so confirm your attendance now by sending an email to imd@mmsa.org.mt to avoid disappointment.
Do your part this ?Movember? and find us at the University of Malta on the 23rd, from 09.00 hrs.? till late afternoon. For more information contact us on imd@mmsa.org.mt. MMSA would like to thank our sponsors; St. James Hospital Group, Citadel Health?Insurance Agency, Papier Plus and Gymnasia.
